Teenage Wife Detained for Allegedly Poisoning Spouse Shortly After Marriage

A 19-year-old woman in Bauchi has been arrested for allegedly poisoning her husband just over a month after their wedding; the victim is currently recovering in the hospital.

Aisha Musa, a 19-year-old resident of Gwamma village in Bauchi Local Government Area, has been taken into custody by the Bauchi State Police Command. She stands accused of attempting to kill her husband by poisoning him.

The authorities announced the arrest on Thursday, August 13, 2026, through an official statement from police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib. The alleged crime took place only 40 days following the couple’s wedding. Investigators believe Musa added a toxic substance to her husband’s meal on August 12.

Emergency responders transported the victim to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi. Officials confirmed that the husband survived the attempt and is currently in stable condition. Law enforcement intervened after receiving a tip from an anonymous caller.

During questioning, Musa admitted to the act. The police have secured an empty bottle believed to have held the poison, as well as food samples, for use as evidence. The State Criminal Investigation Department continues to examine the case.
