Three teenagers have received prison sentences for the murder of 16-year-old Kayden Moy during a confrontation between rival groups on Irvine Beach on 17 May 2025.
Cole Turley, 18, and 19-year-old Jay Stewart each received a minimum term of 16 years. A third defendant, a 15-year-old who cannot be legally identified, was sentenced to at least 14 years behind bars. Lord Scott, the presiding judge, described the act as a senseless and avoidable loss of life, noting that the group traveled to the beach specifically to carry out a reprisal.
Court proceedings revealed that Moy was chased and repeatedly stabbed with a lock knife after tripping and falling. Witnesses and video evidence showed the attackers fleeing the scene after the assault, during which they were observed hugging and shaking hands. Following the stabbing, the group traveled back to East Kilbride and reportedly recorded a rap song deriding the victim while he remained in critical condition.
The trial established that the perpetrators were associated with the Murray Boys gang from East Kilbride, while Moy belonged to a rival group known as the Himshie. Tensions between the factions had flared earlier that day, leading the trio to arm themselves and seek out the victim. Evidence presented by a friend of Turley indicated that the weapon was passed between the attackers prior to the fatal confrontation.
