The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed on Thursday that power transmission has resumed on the Benin–Egbin 330kV line. This follows a grid disturbance earlier in the day that caused widespread electricity outages throughout Lagos and neighboring regions.
Ndidi Mbah, the TCN General Manager for Public Affairs, explained that the incident began at 8:19 a.m. due to voltage fluctuations on the national grid that impacted the Lagos transmission corridor. This instability triggered the shutdown of several power plants and transmission circuits. To prevent further damage, the National Control Centre ordered power stations to lower output and stabilize frequency levels.
Chief Joseph Tegbe, the Minister of Power, held an emergency session with TCN and the Nigerian Independent System Operator to manage the recovery process. While the Benin–Egbin line is operational again, technical teams from the Benin and Omotoso sub-regions are still repairing the Benin–Omotoso 330kV line. TCN officials expressed regret for the disruption and stated their focus remains on reinforcing the national grid to prevent future stability issues.
