Leeds United have secured the services of defender Tarik Muharemovic, acquiring the 23-year-old from Italian club Sassuolo in a deal worth £34.1m.
The Bosnia-Herzegovina international, who boasts 17 caps for his country, has committed to a five-year contract at Elland Road. He arrives as a direct successor to Pascal Struijk, who departed for Brighton in a £20m transfer earlier this June. Muharemovic represents the club’s second major acquisition this summer, following the arrival of Harry Wilson on a free transfer from Fulham.
Known for his international experience, the centre-back participated in this year’s World Cup. During the tournament, he was involved in a high-profile incident with USA striker Folarin Balogun that resulted in a red card for the forward, and he was also dismissed himself during a match against Switzerland.
