Chief Sunday Adeyemo, widely recognized as Sunday Igboho, announced that his Iru Ekun Security Network has reached a major milestone with over 80,000 volunteers signed up throughout the South-West. This surge in recruitment highlights the local commitment to addressing regional security challenges. Igboho stated that the group’s formation represents a collective effort to fight kidnapping, terrorism, and violent crime.
According to an official statement, the network has already contributed to a notable decrease in abduction cases in areas previously impacted by criminal activity. To maintain organizational integrity, the group is conducting rigorous background checks on every volunteer to ensure no individuals with criminal histories gain entry. While the initial target was 50,000 personnel, the actual enrollment has far exceeded that projection.
The security operation is currently active in Oyo and Osun states, with an upcoming launch scheduled for Kwara State involving collaboration with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. Igboho highlighted that the program works alongside federal entities, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces, to bolster public safety. He specifically credited national security leaders, such as General Christopher Musa and Nuhu Ribadu, for their support. Ultimately, he emphasized that maintaining safety is a duty that all citizens must share, regardless of their background.
