Sowore Refuses to Board DSS Vehicle Following Court Remand Order

Activist Omoyele Sowore resisted DSS attempts to place him in a Black Maria van after a federal court ordered his remand in the Kuje Correctional Centre.

An intense confrontation erupted at the Abuja Federal High Court after officials ordered activist Omoyele Sowore to be held at the Kuje Correctional Centre. A video shared on social media shows the activist actively pushing back against DSS agents who intended to transport him using a Black Maria prison van.

Sowore insisted on alternative transport, stating that his back condition prevented him from entering the prison vehicle. He suggested taking an Uber or using a different car, emphasizing his willingness to follow the agents if a more suitable mode of transit was provided. He repeatedly stated he would not enter the specific vehicle presented to him.

The Abuja Federal High Court issued the remand order, which remains in effect until June 24, 2026. On that date, the court is scheduled to hear a motion regarding the revocation of his bail. The DSS initiated the legal proceedings, alleging that Sowore committed criminal defamation and cyberstalking by calling President Tinubu a criminal in a post shared online in August 2025.
