The Accord party in Osun State has refused to participate in a meeting requested by the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan. The party leadership stated they will not cooperate with law enforcement until authorities take action against those accused of attacking and killing their supporters.
Pastor Victor Akande, the state chairman of Accord, released a statement on Monday criticizing the police command for its lack of response to a pattern of violence against party members. Akande noted that the invitation to the meeting was sent late Sunday without clarifying the objective, leading the party to view it as a superficial gesture that ignores the suffering of their members.
The party cited several incidents, including the killing of their youth leader in Ikire and the destruction of billboards by individuals allegedly linked to the APC. Akande also reported that seven people sustained serious injuries during attacks in Osogbo and Ede. Furthermore, he claimed that a 14-year-old named Ezekiel Olapade was killed on Sunday in the presence of police officers, yet no arrests have occurred.
Because of these unresolved issues, the Accord party remains firm in its refusal to meet with the Commissioner until the police demonstrate impartiality and hold the perpetrators of this violence accountable.
