Omoyele Sowore, who ran for president under the African Action Congress, asserts that the current administration led by Bola Tinubu has forced millions of citizens into severe economic distress, characterized by rampant inflation and exorbitant living costs.
This outcome stands in stark contrast to the commitments President Tinubu made when he took office in 2023. At his inauguration ceremony at Eagle Square in Abuja on May 29, 2023, Tinubu famously declared the fuel subsidy terminated, arguing that the move would eradicate graft in the oil industry and boost the quality of life for the populace.
However, the aftermath of the subsidy removal has been marked by repeated surges in gasoline prices, which have significantly hindered the national economy and burdened everyday people. Sowore described the current state of affairs as shege promax, a colloquial term for extreme suffering. Writing on the platform X, the activist noted that despite promises of a better life, the administration has delivered only deepened poverty and a historic cost-of-living crisis for the average citizen.
