Internal Conflict Intensifies in Kwara APC as Governor’s Allies Visit Abuja Headquarters

Supporters of Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq have traveled to the APC national headquarters in Abuja to address rising tensions over the alleged imposition of Speaker Yakubu Danladi Salihu as the 2027 gubernatorial candidate.

The internal strife within the Kwara State All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified. On Monday, associates of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq traveled to the party’s national headquarters in Abuja to address leadership regarding the ongoing dispute over the alleged selection of Speaker Yakubu Danladi Salihu as the party’s 2027 gubernatorial candidate.

This action follows a formal protest submitted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by ten governorship hopefuls who oppose the primary election results favoring Salihu. Previously, an elders’ caucus headed by Chief James Bamisaiye also contested Salihu’s candidacy, claiming the Governor handpicked him and requesting national intervention.

Led by state party chairman Prince Sunday Fagbemi, the delegation includes notable figures like Razaq Lawal and Abdullateef Alakawa. The group opted for a private chartered flight from Ilorin to maintain discretion regarding their travel plans. Their objective is to present the governor’s stance to the National Working Committee and the national chairman.

In addition to these meetings, the delegation plans to consult with the Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, to bolster their position. While supporters of the governor maintain that the party can settle these disputes internally, observers suggest that these events point to significant divisions within the state APC structure.
