Imo State Governor and South-East Governors’ Forum Chairman, Hope Uzodimma, has announced that the governors of the five South-East states have pledged their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. During a meeting in Owerri with traditional leaders and the Imo State Elders Council, Uzodimma stated that this decision is based on the federal administration’s tangible developmental progress in the region.
Uzodimma emphasized that while the governors represent different political parties, they remain committed to collaborating with the current administration due to its performance. Key initiatives highlighted include the establishment of the South East Development Commission, the revival of the Port Harcourt–Aba rail line, and various major road projects, such as the access roads to the Second Niger Bridge and the Otuocha–Anam–Abaji corridor. He noted that these infrastructure efforts, alongside national policies like fiscal reforms and student loan schemes, have directly benefited the region.
Addressing the state of Imo, the governor strongly advocated for the state’s Charter of Equity. He argued that institutionalizing the rotation of political power is essential for lasting peace and stability in the state. Uzodimma vowed to protect this framework personally to ensure his successor reflects the integrity and commitment needed to continue his administration’s work. Furthermore, he called for greater investment in vocational training to combat unemployment and improve regional security.
