Serena Williams faces uncertainty for Wimbledon doubles following knee injury

Serena Williams’ participation in the Wimbledon doubles tournament is uncertain after she suffered a knee injury during her recent singles comeback match.

Serena Williams’ return to the Wimbledon doubles draw is currently uncertain after she sustained a knee injury during her singles match. The 44-year-old athlete, who holds six doubles titles at the All England Club alongside her sister Venus, was scheduled to make a Grand Slam comeback this Friday.

The physical setback occurred during her loss to Australia’s Maya Joint on Tuesday, resulting in visible swelling in her right knee. Her representative, Jill Smoller, confirmed that Williams experienced a problem toward the end of the first set. Consequently, medical teams from Wimbledon and the WTA exempted the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion from her post-match media commitments.

Although she left the grounds without assistance, her status for the upcoming doubles event remains up in the air. Smoller noted that Williams is putting in maximum effort to recover in time for the scheduled match later this week.
