Senator Neda Imasuen, the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions Chairman, has officially refuted claims that he was ever involved in bank robbery or fraud within the United States. In a formal statement sent to the African Achievers Awards Organisation in London, the Edo South senator labeled these accusations as malicious attempts to smear his character for political gain.
The senator clarified that no American law enforcement agency or court has ever issued a warrant for his arrest or identified him as a fugitive. He pointed out that he travels regularly between Nigeria and the United States, including for medical visits, and receives social security benefits, which would be impossible if he were a criminal suspect. He specifically addressed the circulation of a fraudulent photo showing a different man in handcuffs, dismissing the image as a fabrication.
Regarding his legal career, Imasuen admitted to past regulatory disciplinary proceedings but emphasized that they were entirely administrative rather than criminal. He chose not to contest the outcome at the time because he was transitioning to a career with the European Union. He has now engaged legal counsel in New York to pursue the reinstatement of his law license. Imasuen suggested that these attacks are retaliatory, emerging shortly after his committee managed high-profile disciplinary matters involving another senator. He urged the public to disregard baseless social media rumors and rely solely on verified legal documentation.
