Law enforcement officials are currently searching for an individual who remains in the custody of gunmen in Benue State. The victim was among three siblings kidnapped while transporting their mother’s body from Abuja for funeral services.
On Saturday evening, the captors let two of the siblings go and left the casket behind, allowing the family to proceed with the burial. However, one person remains missing. The abduction took place at approximately 4 a.m. on Saturday as the group traveled toward Iklenyi in the Okpokwu Local Government Area. The attack happened on the road between Omutele and Ankpechi.
Local resident Elijah confirmed that while two siblings were freed, the search for the third continues. Gabriel Adole, the Chairman of the Ohimini Local Government Area, verified the events and stated that the mother’s body has been transported to Okpokwu for interment. Adole added that police officers and military personnel are currently combing the forest to find the hostage.
DSP Udeme Edet, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, indicated that the office has not yet received a formal report regarding the abduction from the local police division.
