Vigilante Commander Murdered by Bandits Leading to Road Protests in Katsina

A vigilante leader was killed by armed bandits in Katsina, sparking highway protests that were later dispersed by security forces.

Armed attackers raided Gora Village in the Malumfashi Local Government Area, resulting in the death of the local vigilante chief, Alhaji Nuhu Barau. The Katsina State Police Command, represented by spokesperson DSP Abubakar Sadiq, verified the event occurred on Wednesday morning.

Police officers arrived at the scene after receiving an emergency report at 10:00 a.m. While law enforcement managed to drive off the attackers, the vigilante leader had already been killed. Security efforts are currently focused on patrolling the vicinity to capture those responsible.

Later that day, residents gathered at 5:00 p.m. to block the Malumfashi–Katsina highway in protest of the insecurity. Military and police personnel were deployed to clear the route and restore order. While local reports suggest a second person was killed in Gidan Barau, officials have only confirmed the death of Alhaji Nuhu Barau.

Authorities have not yet made any arrests regarding the murder. DSP Sadiq requested that the public avoid vigilantism and use official channels to report issues while investigations proceed.
