Sam Amadi, the former head of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, recently shared insights regarding his past political pursuits and the cautionary advice he received from prominent figures. Reflecting on his experiences through a social media post, Amadi revealed that both Governor Hope Uzodinma and Peter Obi advised him against entering specific electoral races.
In 2014, current Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma suggested that while Amadi possessed the qualifications to lead the state, he lacked the ruthless approach necessary for the political arena. More recently, in 2026, Peter Obi discouraged Amadi from pursuing a Senate seat. Obi cited the pervasive violence in the electoral process, stating that Amadi’s character was incompatible with the corrupt and harmful tactics employed by other actors.
Despite these warnings about the harsh nature of Nigerian politics, Amadi maintains his resolve. He has declared his intention to run for governor, signaling his refusal to be discouraged by the unethical practices mentioned by his peers.
