Halima Shehu, the former National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), has reached out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding her ongoing legal struggles with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In a video circulated by ADBN on Saturday, a visibly emotional Shehu requested the President’s help to resolve the situation she has faced since her suspension in January 2024.
Shehu was removed from her role amid accusations involving the alleged misappropriation of N17 billion in agency funds. During her emotional plea, she insisted that the anti-graft agency disclose its findings, arguing that the lack of information has caused her significant distress and damaged her reputation. She addressed the President as a father figure, noting that she has suffered since publicly voicing her support for his administration.
Her suspension followed a period of political turbulence that also saw the removal of Betta Edu, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, who was accused of diverting N585.189 million into a personal account. Despite the passage of time, the EFCC has not yet released its formal reports regarding either Shehu or Edu.
