Rufai Oseni criticizes political friction between Makinde and Federal Government over Oyo kidnapping

Arise TV host Rufai Oseni calls for an end to the political feuding between Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the Federal Government following the recent kidnapping of students and teachers.

Broadcaster Rufai Oseni has publicly denounced the political dispute between Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the Nigerian Federal Government regarding the kidnapping of students and educators in the Oriire Local Government Area.

Following the successful rescue of the victims by military forces, Governor Makinde requested a United Nations inquiry into the kidnapping. This request triggered pushback from the Federal Government and the All Progressives Congress, who asserted that Nigeria maintains the sovereignty to manage its own domestic security challenges. Makinde had previously hinted that the abduction could be politically motivated, referencing his recent declaration to run in the 2027 presidential election.

During a segment on Arise TV’s Morning Show, Oseni characterized these verbal exchanges as unproductive. He urged leadership to prioritize structural security improvements over political point-scoring, noting that the victims have already been recovered. Oseni specifically questioned the Governor’s focus on his presidential aspirations, pointing to historical security issues in the state during the Sunday Igboho era to challenge the Governor’s current narrative. He concluded that while an investigation is an option, the immediate priority must be long-term security solutions rather than speculative political rhetoric.
