The Federal High Court in Abuja has sparked widespread reaction after Justice Mohammed Garba Umar ordered the detention of activist Omoyele Sowore at Kuje prison. This decision remains in effect until the court hears his motion regarding the revocation of his bail and a pending bench warrant.
Sowore is currently facing legal proceedings for allegedly labeling President Bola Tinubu a criminal on social media platforms X and Facebook. The judicial directive has prompted significant commentary from various public figures and citizens alike.
Prince Emmanuel Kanu, sibling of Nnamdi Kanu, publicly offered his support to the activist on Facebook. He asserted that Sowore is not isolated in his struggle, adding that justice will ultimately prevail against perceived oppression.
Similarly, social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, claimed the Nigerian legal system is currently compromised by corruption. He argued that the charges against Sowore stem from his criticism of the current administration, further stating his own dissatisfaction with the state of national security and governance under President Tinubu.
Many other Nigerians have used social media to voice their disapproval, frequently labeling the legal action as a politically motivated attempt to silence dissent.
