Ayodele Olawande, the Minister of Youth Development, explained on Channels Television that the decision aligns with the administration’s goal to prioritize locally manufactured goods and keep financial resources within Nigeria. This announcement comes on the heels of the Federal Executive Council’s approval of major reforms for the NYSC, which has been in operation since 1973.
Social media users have been vocal in their opposition. Critics argue that Adire is culturally specific to the Yoruba people and does not adequately represent the nation’s diverse ethnic groups.
