Governor Eno Offers Support to Flood Victims and Issues Warning on Drainage Maintenance

Governor Umo Eno expresses sympathy for recent flood victims in Uyo and calls on residents to maintain clear drainage channels to prevent future disaster.

Governor Umo Eno has reached out to the residents of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, following the significant flooding that occurred this past Thursday. He expressed his deepest concern for those who suffered damages during the event.

Addressing the press at Victor Attah International Airport, the Governor noted that while heavy rainfall is a natural phenomenon, the impact is exacerbated by human activity. He specifically cautioned citizens against throwing trash into drainage systems, a practice that frequently obstructs water flow and heightens flood risks.

Governor Eno reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to managing the crisis. He stated that state agencies are actively working to desilt major channels and provide assistance in affected regions. Furthermore, he encouraged the public to notify the government regarding areas where cleaning services are urgently required.

Pointing to recent advisories from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) regarding the onset of the rainy season, the Governor emphasized that flood prevention is a shared responsibility. He urged residents to clear obstructions from the drainage systems surrounding their properties to ensure that storm water moves efficiently, thereby minimizing potential damage.
