Ibrahim Traore, the President of Burkina Faso, has declared that Sharia law will not be implemented under his administration. In a public address, he expressed strong disapproval toward citizens traveling to Saudi Arabia to pursue studies in religious law.
The President urged these individuals to prioritize technical and scientific education instead, arguing that such expertise is essential for the advancement of the nation. He explicitly stated that those currently abroad studying Islamic law should not attempt to return to Burkina Faso.
Traore emphasized his own faith as a Muslim while asserting that Burkina Faso remains a secular state where citizens are free to follow their respective religions. He concluded by reiterating that he will not permit the introduction of Sharia law, advising students to stay in their current locations if their education remains focused on religious doctrine rather than national development.
