President Bola Tinubu has formally celebrated Nigeria’s induction as the latest National Member Committee within the World Energy Council (WEC). He views this milestone as a significant endorsement of Nigeria’s recent energy policy shifts and its capacity for regional leadership across Africa.
By joining this global network, which encompasses more than 100 nations, Nigeria is now better situated to influence international conversations regarding energy sustainability, security, and equity. The President extended his congratulations to the foundational leadership team, specifically Chairman Abdulrazaq Isa and Chief Executive Officer Bala Wunti, alongside the diverse group of board members representing finance, academia, and industry regulatory bodies.
President Tinubu lauded Mr. Isa for his contributions to indigenous refining and industrial development. He also highlighted the decades of service provided by Mr. Wunti, noting his reputation for integrity and his role in revitalizing the national energy sector’s financial health. The President emphasized that this diverse board provides the necessary credibility for the organization to thrive.
Stating that Nigeria intends to lead rather than merely participate, the President confirmed that the federal government remains dedicated to supporting WEC Nigeria as an unbiased venue for innovation and policy advancement. He concluded by pledging continued cooperation with the London-based council to ensure the provision of affordable and secure energy supplies.
