The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has officially refuted rumors that its members have stopped collecting petrol from the Dangote Refinery. Chinedu Ukadike, the association’s National Publicity Secretary, clarified the situation during a Monday interview.
Reports had recently circulated suggesting that marketers ceased operations at the refinery due to the facility’s policy of pricing refined products in U.S. dollars. Ukadike explicitly denied these claims, confirming that members continue to load fuel from the 700,000-barrel-per-day plant.
While business continues, Ukadike acknowledged that instability in the downstream sector complicates operations. He called on the Nigerian government to engage with Dangote Refinery regarding a transition back to naira-denominated sales. Recently, the refinery’s shift to dollar-based pricing has contributed to significant price volatility, with petrol costs in Abuja climbing between N1,155 and N1,280 per liter over the past week.
