TCN Re-energizes Lagos Power Infrastructure After Flood Damage

TCN has restored electrical power to parts of Lagos following the successful repair of a flooded 60MVA transformer at the Oworonshoki substation.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully resumed power delivery to various sections of Lagos State following a period of darkness caused by significant flooding. Ndidi Mbah, the organization’s spokesperson, verified the update in a formal communication released this Wednesday.

Maintenance teams worked to bring the 60MVA transformer, designated as TR1, back online at the Oworonshoki Transmission Substation. The facility had been deactivated temporarily due to rising water levels. With the transformer functional again, the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) is now able to supply power to its customers in the impacted zones once more. According to official reports, the restoration occurred at 07:53 hrs on June 30, 2026.

This resolution follows a period of disruption that began when intense rainfall submerged the substation. TCN had previously cited the environmental challenges as a force majeure event, acknowledging that the floodwaters had compromised network operations until the site could be secured and repaired.
