Political Violence Erupts in Osun: APC Member Shot and Ilesa Residents Kidnapped

Violence intensifies in Osun as an APC member is shot by suspected opposition supporters and two Ilesa residents are abducted by alleged pro-APC thugs, prompting a stern police crackdown.

On Saturday, Taofeek Mustapha, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), suffered a gunshot wound to the leg after being targeted by unidentified individuals. An eyewitness, Sola Hammed, reported that the attackers arrived in an unmarked vehicle and opened fire indiscriminately near Oluode-Aranyin. According to the victim, he was singled out because he wore an APC-branded cap. The assailants, who displayed signs associated with the Accord Party, fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Separately, police authorities confirmed that two people previously abducted in Ilesa by individuals suspected to be aligned with the APC have been successfully rescued. These incidents occur as election-related tensions rise in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship vote.

In response, Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu has instructed Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan to increase police presence and conduct raids on known criminal hotspots. During a stakeholder meeting with INEC and political leaders, DIG Adegoke Fayoade emphasized that the force will not tolerate efforts to destabilize the state, warning political figures against providing sanctuary to criminal elements.
