Police raid Alimosho criminal hotspots, sparking alarm among Lagos residents

Lagos police conducted an overnight raid in the Alimosho area, arresting several suspects and destroying a site allegedly used by criminals, causing widespread panic among locals.

Armed police launched a nighttime operation at the Oko Filling Bus Stop area near LASU-Governor’s Road in Alimosho, Lagos, resulting in multiple arrests and the burning of a dumpsite identified as a criminal stronghold.

Officers arrived in numerous patrol vehicles during the early hours of Sunday near Alimosho General Hospital, conducting a sweep of the locality. The presence of security forces and intermittent gunfire caused significant distress for local inhabitants, with many residents seeking cover or alerting emergency services.

While the origin of the shots remains unconfirmed, witnesses described a potential confrontation between officers and suspected criminal elements. Local residents had previously complained about the site being a nexus for illegal activities. One resident named Deola noted that the chaos was linked to disputes between cult factions, resulting in minor injuries among civilians fleeing the scene.

The Lagos State Police Command has yet to provide an official briefing on the event, though insiders suggest the action was a targeted effort to dismantle a base for organized crime and extremist activity.
