Yoruba activist Sunday Igboho has provided a formal update regarding the well-being of his private security detail, known as Iru Ekun, following an ambush. Members of the group were attacked by bandits three days prior while scouring the Old Oyo State National Park for kidnapped students and teachers from Oriire.
Reports had previously circulated suggesting that Igboho himself had been injured or defeated by the gunmen. In a video released on June 28, 2026, he explicitly refuted these claims, confirming his physical safety and reiterating his resolve to eliminate kidnapping activities within the region. He further noted that the wounded security operatives are currently recovering well.
Igboho addressed his supporters directly in the recording, dismissing the viral speculation surrounding his status. He emphasized his firm stance, stating that his efforts to clear the territory of criminal kidnappers will continue without interruption. He expressed gratitude for the public support and signaled that operations remain active.
