The State Police Command has arrested seven suspected cultists in Benin City.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, the suspects were apprehended while assaulting an Okada rider at Peanut Junction along the Benin-Sapele Road.

The arrests were carried out by operatives from the Love World Division on Sunday, June 8, 2025.

The suspects have been identified as Erick Charles, Gift Nerese, Odion Osaro, Festus Osaghai, Owas Ighodaro, Samuel Sabi, and Destiny Bernard.

Yamu stated that two additional suspects managed to escape, while two of those arrested confessed to being members of the Maphite Confraternity.

He also revealed that items recovered from the suspects during the operation included a pestle, a machete, a live cartridge, and a tricycle with registration number AUC 184 VH.

According to him, the suspects will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

Yamu further noted that the Command’s house-to-house arrests of identified cultists are still ongoing, emphasizing that the operation will continue until cult-related activities are reduced to the barest minimum in the state.
