A high-ranking bandit leader identified as Ojiogu Martin, also known as Acid, has been killed by members of the Nigeria Police Force. The operation was carried out by the Special Tactical Squad-Force Intelligence Department in the Ohaji/Egbema area of Imo State. During the encounter, authorities seized an AK-47, three magazines, and 56 rounds of ammunition from the suspect.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, stated that the operation occurred during the early hours of August 6, 2026. The mission was executed by a team led by ACP Victor Ogbeide Godfrey under orders from IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu. Upon detecting the police presence at his hideout, the suspect engaged in a prolonged gunfight, which ultimately resulted in his death.
Investigators have linked Acid to a series of violent crimes and murders committed between 2024 and 2026. Among these incidents is the April 2026 killing of HRH Eze Barrister Paulinus Ekwueme and five other individuals. The suspect was also suspected of targeting those he believed were providing intelligence to law enforcement. Police continue to probe the group’s involvement in various other attacks, including the arson of a business establishment owned by Mr. ThankGod Terry.
Authorities have confirmed that prior to this engagement, they successfully apprehended four other gang members and neutralized two others, including one individual known as K2. The police force has promised to maintain its efforts to identify and capture remaining members of this criminal network to ensure public safety.
