On Saturday, the Police Force headquarters announced significant progress in the investigation surrounding the killing of HRH Eze Paulinus Ekwueme, the Ochia I of Ochia Kingdom, and five other individuals in Ohaji/Egbema, Imo State. According to CSP Aniete Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, police units executed a series of strategic operations between August 2 and August 6, 2026, based on verified intelligence.
The operation reached a turning point on August 6 when officers discovered the hideout of Ojiogu Elumah Martin, known as ‘Acid,’ who was suspected of leading the criminal group. During the ensuing gunfight, Martin was injured and later died. Authorities recovered an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, and 56 rounds of ammunition at the scene. Martin was believed to be the primary leader of the syndicate responsible for the April 10, 2026, attack on Asa/Awara Road where the monarch and his companions were killed.
To date, five suspects have been taken into custody in relation to these murders. Additionally, two other individuals associated with the gang were killed in previous police encounters. Law enforcement continues to track remaining fugitives to ensure that all participants in the violence are held accountable under the law.
