Authorities in Kaduna State have taken a married couple into custody regarding the death of their teenage son in the Kurmin-Mashi area. The victim, a boy named Sadiq aged between 12 and 14, reportedly passed away on Tuesday after suffering physical abuse from his mother, Hauwa’u Adamu, and his stepfather, Sharhabil.
Local accounts shared via the K-Mashi Voice platform suggest the conflict started on Monday. The boy’s mother had sent him to a PoS agent to withdraw N5,000. When he returned, it was discovered that two withdrawals were actually made, prompting the stepfather to confront the boy at the terminal. Upon confirming the extra transaction, the couple allegedly punished the boy severely.
Witnesses noted that despite pleas from a concerned neighbor and a local Islamic cleric around 10 p.m. on Monday, the parents continued the punishment. The boy remained in critical condition overnight and was pronounced dead the next morning. Officers from the Kurmin-Mashi Division moved the body to Yusuf Dantsoho Hospital for an autopsy. The couple remains detained while police continue their investigation, though the Kaduna State Police Command has not yet released a formal statement.
