Piet Cremers Departs Wales Coaching Staff to Join Club NXT

Piet Cremers has resigned as Wales assistant coach to take over as head coach of Club Brugge’s youth team, Club NXT.

Piet Cremers has stepped down from his role as assistant coach for the Wales men’s national team, creating a significant vacancy in Craig Bellamy’s coaching staff. The 31-year-old Dutch professional is moving to Belgium to become the head coach of Club NXT, the youth academy team of Club Brugge, where he succeeds Jonas De Roeck.

Cremers, who previously served as the head of performance analysis and insights under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, joined Bellamy’s staff in August 2024. Reflecting on his move, Cremers stated that the vision of Club Brugge aligns with his own philosophy on talent development and creating an environment for players to thrive. The Football Association of Wales (FAW) expressed gratitude for his contributions and offered their best wishes for his future.

The departure marks the end of a professional partnership that flourished during their time at Burnley, where both men served as assistants to Vincent Kompany during the club’s successful Championship title campaign. Bellamy had relied heavily on Cremers’ analytical expertise throughout his tenure with Wales, frequently consulting with him on the sidelines to process real-time data and tactical adjustments. Bellamy has previously described Cremers’ influence on the team as vital to his overall setup.
