Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming 2027 elections, has committed to fostering national unity to drive significant human capital development. In a statement shared on X, Obi outlined his plan for a more productive and prosperous nation.
Obi emphasized that his primary goal is to bridge national divides and initiate widespread transformation. He plans to introduce a detailed roadmap aimed at eliminating government corruption and reversing the declining standard of living for citizens, ultimately fostering peace and long-term economic stability.
Central to his platform is the belief that education and healthcare are the cornerstones of national success. To address the issue of children missing out on education, Obi intends to create a specialized task force. He also advocates for prioritizing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to fuel industrial growth. His strategy involves building industrial parks across various geopolitical zones that leverage local agricultural strengths and value-added processing.
By collaborating with the private sector, government agencies, and faith-based organizations, Obi hopes to emulate the German dual education model to bridge the current skills gap. He argues that this approach will help retain entrepreneurs who currently move their operations abroad due to the lack of a skilled workforce at home. Furthermore, Obi aims to integrate civic and character education into the national curriculum to cultivate trust and responsible leadership, supporting his core vision of shifting Nigeria from a consumption-based model to an economy centered on local production.
