Obi encouraged Nigerians to prioritize helping those in need over hosting lavish parties, arguing that the country’s economic climate demands collective responsibility. He highlighted that despite Nigeria’s vast potential, millions remain trapped by poverty, unemployment, and insecurity. He argued that true life celebration lies in positively impacting others, a philosophy he applied during his corporate career and his time leading Anambra State.
Consistent with this belief, Obi chose to redirect funds typically spent on birthday honors toward community development. Throughout his career, this approach has led to the construction of educational facilities and support programs for the underserved. To mark his 65th year, he attended a Thanksgiving Mass in Onitsha before traveling to St. Raphael’s Hospital in Umueri. There, he donated ₦10 million to boost rural healthcare services, noting that investing in hospitals and schools is essential for a nation’s future.
