The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that nearly all ambassadors selected by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have been accepted by their assigned nations. According to a statement released Saturday by ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, 97 percent of the diplomatic nominees have secured the necessary agreements from host governments.
President Tinubu originally appointed 69 ambassadors-designate following Senate confirmation. Out of that group, 65 have obtained approval. The total figure accounts for specific exceptions: the nominee for Togo rejected the post, while the appointee for Algeria passed away in April 2026, necessitating a search for a successor.
The ministry confirmed that only two countries have yet to provide official consent, though both nations have promised to finalize the process soon. Officials remain in active communication with these governments to complete the formalities. Most of the appointed diplomats have already reached their posts and presented their Letters of Credence to begin their official work.
