St Helens head coach Paul Rowley has vacated his role at the Super League side, effective immediately, just months into his tenure. The 51-year-old had been with the team since the start of the 2026 season following his time managing Salford Red Devils.
During his brief period at St Helens, the team encountered significant performance issues exacerbated by a string of injuries. Currently, they sit in sixth place, trailing the top-ranked Leeds Rhinos by six points, having suffered six defeats in their last ten matches across all formats. This resignation occurs just one day prior to the rivalry game against Wigan Warriors.
Chairman Eamonn McManus acknowledged the difficulty of the situation, noting the unique obstacles Rowley encountered during this season. He emphasized the organization’s commitment to maintaining its status as a top contender for future titles.
Eamon O’Carroll, the assistant coach, has been appointed as the interim manager. O’Carroll brings extensive experience to the role, having previously played for Wigan, Hull FC, and Widnes, and having served as head coach for Bradford Bulls and Newcastle Thunder, alongside assistant roles at Catalans Dragons.
