Patrice Motsepe Clarifies Protocol for Challenging FIFA Leadership

CAF President Patrice Motsepe argues that Gianni Infantino can only be removed as FIFA president through the standard election process rather than resignation demands.

Confederation of African Football leader Patrice Motsepe has emphasized that the only legitimate way to dismiss Gianni Infantino as head of FIFA is via the electoral process. While CAF remains among the organizations backing Infantino, other bodies including UEFA, the AFC, and CONCACAF have criticized the 56-year-old following a controversial proposal to trade World Cup stakes to private investors.

These critics have called for Infantino to step down and refrain from pursuing another term during the upcoming March elections. However, Motsepe, who currently serves as a FIFA vice president, maintains that any leadership change must follow established regulations. Speaking with Sky News, he stated that grievances against any official should be handled through FIFA’s formal channels. Motsepe stressed that the ultimate decision lies with the 211 member associations and suggested that the scheduled elections are the proper venue to determine the future of the presidency.
