The Oyo State Police Command recently achieved significant success in its battle against violent crime by rescuing two kidnapped children, detaining four suspects, and seizing a collection of dangerous weapons. These operations were executed in coordination with the Amotekun Corps, local hunters, and vigilante groups.
According to DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the police spokesperson, the rescue mission began after an armed group attacked Ebinpejo Village in the Ibarapa East area on June 27, looting homes and seizing two children. Police Commissioner Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga ordered an immediate search, which led the combined security forces to a forest hideout. A gunfight broke out, during which the criminals were scattered. One suspect, Umaru Usman, was captured with gunshot wounds, followed by the arrest of Abdullahi Ahmed the next day. Investigators also apprehended a local accomplice named Sunday Idowu and Muhammed Ibrahim Shina, who allegedly traveled from Ilorin to participate in the crime. The rescued children are currently safe and have received necessary medical care.
In a separate enforcement action, the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit targeted an armed robbery gang. While the suspects escaped, officers discovered a hidden stash of weapons in Ajah, Lagos State, including two Russian-made double-barrel guns, a pump-action rifle, a revolver, and dozens of live cartridges. The police are continuing to pursue these suspects and remain dedicated to public safety, while thanking local partners for their collaboration.
