Lagos employee of microfinance bank faces forgery charges

Henry Nwoko has been arraigned in a Lagos court for allegedly forging a non-indebtedness letter at his place of employment, Advance Microfinance Bank.

Henry Nwoko, a 37-year-old employee at Advance Microfinance Bank, appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos this Friday. He faces accusations involving the falsification of a non-indebtedness document.

The defendant is charged with two counts: forgery and behavior intended to disturb public peace. Nwoko entered a plea of not guilty to both counts.

Prosecutor ASP Simon Njue explained that these incidents occurred during February at the bank’s branch situated on Egbeda-Idimu Road. Authorities allege that Nwoko created and distributed the non-indebtedness letter to a client without official bank approval.

The prosecution stated that these actions violated Sections 365 and 168(d) of the 2015 Criminal Law of Lagos State. If found guilty, forgery can result in a three-year prison term, while causing a breach of peace carries a potential two-year sentence.

Magistrate F.R. Ogunkoyode granted the defendant bail set at N1.5 million, requiring two reliable sureties. The trial will resume for a mention on August 11.
