The Osun State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has established caretaker committees to manage transport union operations following internal disputes within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). This decision comes after a violent leadership struggle prompted a temporary ban on union activities in public motor parks.
Samuel Idowu, the Osun State ALGON Chairman, confirmed that the suspension of the previous NURTW leadership remains active. These interim committees will maintain control until formal, permanent executives are selected in coordination with national secretariats. The move follows discussions with stakeholders, including traditional rulers and representatives from the NURTW, the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), and various motorcycle and tricycle unions.
Chief Kazeem Oyewale has been appointed to lead the NURTW caretaker team, supported by Mutiu Ayinde as Secretary and Luqman Ahmed as Treasurer. For the RTEAN, Rasheed Ayinde will lead as Chairman, working with Secretary Mufutau Adebisi and Treasurer Wahab Maruf Dodo. Ismaila Raimi will head the motorcycle and tricycle union committee, with assistance from Adebayo Tajudeen and Tajudeen Akeem.
Idowu instructed that all union assets be transferred to the new appointees and requested that police provide support during the transition. He thanked the Nigeria Police Force for their role in calming the recent unrest and urged all stakeholders to work with the committees to ensure order across the 30 local government areas and the Ife East Area Office.
