Adeniyi Adeyemi, the Director-General of the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), was captured by police in an Osun State village. His arrest followed a bench warrant issued by Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja. A specialized unit led by Moses Lohor apprehended Adeyemi after a five-day intelligence operation initially tracked by the Department of State Services.
Adeyemi faces an eight-count charge involving fraud, forgery, and impersonation, specifically linked to claims of running a non-existent government agency. During court proceedings, the prosecution criticized his repeated absences, noting he had missed four consecutive hearings. Although his defense attorney argued that Adeyemi remained in hiding due to threats against his life, Justice Umar ordered his arrest to ensure his appearance for arraignment on September 30.
The suspect has previously alleged that he paid N400 million to secure his position and has called for an independent investigation into the agency’s controversy and budget inclusion. Meanwhile, the legal saga has intertwined with political tensions, as Atiku Abubakar has publicly called for the suspension of Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to allow for an impartial inquiry into the corruption allegations surrounding the PFIPC scandal.
