Orji Kalu Links Economic Reform Challenges to Illegal Arms Influx

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu states that illegal weapons entering Nigeria from neighboring regions are hindering President Tinubu’s economic reform initiatives.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has attributed the obstacles currently facing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic agenda to the nation’s ongoing security concerns. Speaking to supporters in Igbere, Kalu explained that weapons filtering into Nigeria from Libya, Mali, and Burkina Faso are destabilizing the country and undermining government efforts.

Kalu praised President Tinubu for policies such as the removal of fuel subsidies and foreign exchange reforms, noting they have successfully attracted foreign interest. However, he emphasized that insecurity remains the primary barrier to revitalizing the manufacturing sector. He stated that while the President is actively working to combat these threats, the regional instability has made the flow of illegal arms difficult to manage.

Regarding the potential establishment of state police, the Senator acknowledged public apprehension that governors might misuse such authority. He assured citizens that the Senate and the executive branch are drafting legislation to include robust safeguards that prevent the abuse of power. Kalu concluded by urging APC members in Abia to organize for the 2027 election cycle to secure continued success for the party.
