Aiyedatiwa Gifts New SUVs To Ondo Monarchs, Pledges Continued Support For Traditional Rulers
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Thursday, presented brand-new Toyota SUVs to traditional rulers across the state in what he described as a gesture to strengthen and elevate the traditional institution.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony in Akure, the state capital, Aiyedatiwa said the move marked a historic milestone in his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare and dignity of royal fathers.
“As custodians of our cultural heritage and the closest link between government and the grassroots, our administration recognises your importance and cannot afford to neglect your welfare,” the governor said.
He noted that within his first year in office, the state government had completed the long-abandoned secretariat for traditional rulers and ensured prompt payment of the statutory five per cent allocation from local government funds to the traditional institutions.
“Today, all Grade ‘A’ Obas will go home with a Toyota Fortuner Jeep, 2025 model, while all Grade ‘B and C’ Obas will later receive Toyota Corolla Cross Jeeps, 2025 model. These vehicles are symbols of dignity, honour, and respect for our traditional rulers,” Aiyedatiwa announced.
He expressed gratitude to the monarchs for their continued support in maintaining peace and stability across the state and urged them to remain partners in progress with the government.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, said the distribution of vehicles was part of efforts to appreciate the invaluable roles played by traditional rulers in promoting peace and community development.
In his response, the Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas and Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, lauded the governor’s gesture, describing it as timely and befitting.
He said the initiative further demonstrated Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to good governance and assured him of the continued support and cooperation of the traditional rulers across the state.
