Soldiers belonging to Operation Fansan Yamma have successfully saved 27 individuals from captivity as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the North West. According to Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the military spokesperson, the troops also prevented several kidnapping incidents while seizing stolen livestock and motorcycles during their recent missions.
On July 20, 2026, forces from Shagari and Sifawa Forward Operating Bases acted on intelligence reports regarding criminal activity near Wanke and Kaura. Upon encountering militants at Kaura, the soldiers deployed superior force, causing the attackers to retreat. This operation led to the rescue of six hostages and the retrieval of animals and transport equipment. Later that day, personnel in the Gandi area of Sokoto, supported by the State Security Community Guard Corps, located ten additional victims—men, women, and children—near the Badanma community. These individuals had fled their captors and were later returned to their families.
By July 21, 2026, Combat Team 12 engaged with criminals attempting to abduct travelers on the Gummi–Sokoto road. The soldiers successfully pursued the assailants, liberating 11 commuters and securing another motorcycle. The Theatre Command has praised the troops for their professionalism and highlighted the importance of public cooperation in identifying threats. Citizens are encouraged to maintain their vigilance as security forces continue to weaken criminal networks throughout the region.
