Locals in the Borikyo community of Benue State’s Ukum Local Government Area are sounding the alarm following reports of armed men operating in the vicinity. Concerned citizens have alerted security forces, seeking immediate protection against potential violence.
Reports suggest these individuals have been seen traversing areas such as Tse Iortseghen, Haachigh, Tse Tor, and Tse Nyamkume. According to an anonymous youth leader, these men were observed carrying firearms and machetes near agricultural lands. This activity has prompted many farmers to halt their work due to safety concerns. Specifically, a group of eight armed people was spotted near Tse Adigi.
The community is currently experiencing significant anxiety, with many fearing these sightings signal an imminent assault. Residents are calling for the military and police to increase patrols and perform a thorough investigation to protect local lives and property. One local emphasized the need for preemptive measures, arguing that officials should act quickly to prevent displacement and loss of life.
In the meantime, villagers have been advised to stay cautious, avoid secluded areas, and report any suspicious behavior to authorities. When reached for comment, Benue State Police spokesperson DSP Peter Aondongu stated that he had not yet received formal reports regarding these incidents.
