On Monday, the Federal High Court in Abuja directed that Omoyele Sowore, the AAC presidential candidate, be held at the Kuje Correctional Centre. Justice Mohammed Umar issued this order to keep the defendant in custody while his request to stay the revocation of his bail and a bench warrant remains under consideration.
During the session, Justice Umar rejected a request from Sowore for the judge to step down from the trial due to claims of partiality. The proceedings were subsequently rescheduled for June 24 to address the stay motion submitted by Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN.
Sowore, who also leads Sahara Reporters, appeared at the courthouse alongside supporters carrying signs. This legal action follows the judge’s June 16 decision to cancel the activist’s bail after he missed a scheduled court appearance, leading the Department of State Services to successfully request an arrest warrant. The DSS is currently pursuing charges against Sowore for allegedly labeling President Bola Tinubu a criminal in social media posts.
