The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Ogun 1 Area Command in Idiroko has confiscated 6,035 wraps of cannabis sativa. The total Duty Paid Value for the items is estimated at over N2 billion. Area Comptroller Olukayode Afeni transferred the seized substances to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at a handover event on Thursday.
Afeni explained that this procedure follows standard legal protocols to facilitate ongoing investigations. He highlighted the severe dangers associated with a potent cannabis strain known as Ghana Loud, noting its connections to mental health issues, heart problems, and rapid addiction. Furthermore, the high financial returns from this illegal trade are often linked to human trafficking, weapon smuggling, and violent criminal groups.
Since the beginning of the year, the command has turned over more than 32,400 parcels of illicit drugs to the NDLEA. Comptroller Afeni warned traffickers that his team remains determined to dismantle their operations. Adewale Fagbohun, representing the NDLEA, praised the customs officials for their vigilance and emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation in protecting the nation’s borders from illegal substances.
