Jigawa Police Prevent Kidnapping and Robbery, Apprehend Two Suspects

Jigawa police officers arrested two kidnapping suspects and recovered a stolen motorcycle following a separate robbery attempt in the state.

Law enforcement officers in Jigawa State have successfully interrupted a kidnapping plot and taken two individuals into custody within the Kiyawa Local Government Area. SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the spokesperson for the state police, verified the operation during a briefing on Saturday.

The individuals detained are Abubakar Mohammed, a resident of Zawaya Village in Kiyawa, and Sulaiman Idris, who resides in Manuna Village, Itas-Gadau, Bauchi State. Official reports indicate that on June 20, 2026, authorities received a report concerning a conspiracy involving the two men to kidnap a specific target. The suspects purportedly placed anonymous phone calls to their intended victim, demanding a payment of 4 million naira and asserting they had already accepted 2 million naira to either abduct or murder the individual.

Following their capture, the case was moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further examination and legal processing. In a separate incident, police also thwarted an armed robbery in Chuwasu Village, located in the Taura Local Government Area. Assailants armed with sticks and cutlasses stole a black Boxer motorcycle from a victim. When a patrol team arrived, the thieves abandoned the vehicle and escaped. Officers have since recovered the motorcycle and are currently searching for the perpetrators.
