Ten individuals have been taken into custody by the Adamawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for participating in prohibited graduation celebrations. According to DSC Nyako Amidu Baba, the agency’s spokesperson, these suspects were responsible for public disorder.
The Safe School Response Squad intervened following tips about chaotic behavior by students from schools including Capital School, GDSS Demsawo, Doubelli, and Damilu. The students were reportedly tearing uniforms, painting themselves, and fighting in the streets. Authorities had previously banned these activities last year through the state education ministry.
The situation escalated this year as reports emerged of non-students using the gathering as a cover to commit robberies and steal personal belongings. Among those detained, officials discovered individuals who were not graduating seniors, including students from lower grades and others who were not enrolled at the schools at all.
State Commandant Nasiru Saleh has ordered a full investigation to track down other participants. He emphasized that the NSCDC is committed to protecting school environments and preventing activities that threaten public safety. The command is now coordinating with administrators to verify identities and improve security protocols.
