Nigerian security forces have taken into custody a 26-year-old man accused of participating in the May 8 assault on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Yobe State. The arrest was reported by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who noted that the suspect, Musa Abdulhamid, was caught attempting to gain access to a military site on August 4.
During initial questioning, Abdulhamid, a native of Potiskum, admitted to his role in the attack. He named Mohammed, Mustapha, and Ismail as the commanders who directed the operation. The suspect revealed that the militants had waited in the Buni Gari wilderness to prepare for the strike.
Abdulhamid claimed that while insurgent leaders often keep losses secret, the group likely suffered over 10 casualties during the Buni Yadi incident. He explained that fighters are kept in the dark about mission details until the last moment, at which point their communication devices are confiscated. The group frequently changes locations to avoid military tracking. Abdulhamid confessed to carrying a long-barreled firearm during the mission. He is currently detained for further processing, and authorities hope his capture will yield crucial intelligence regarding Boko Haram’s command hierarchy and tactics in the region.
